FAR HILLS, N.J. (Nov. 29, 2017) – The USGA has opened volunteer registration for the 2018 U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship, which will be contested for the first time July 12-15 at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill.  Approximately 1,000 volunteers are needed to serve the championship, which will present an opportunity for golf’s most decorated women to compete for a USGA title.

Volunteers will fill positions on 14 committees, including Marshals, Player Services, Leader Boards and Merchandise. Assignments for these committees will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested volunteers should visit usga.org/seniorwomensopen.  

All volunteers are required to purchase the Volunteer Apparel Package for $85. This includes one championship golf shirt, one championship jacket, one championship hat and championship pin, one water bottle and one volunteer credential valid for all seven (7) days of the championship, as well as complimentary food, snacks and beverages on the days they volunteer. Each volunteer will be asked to complete four (4) five- to six-hour shifts throughout the duration of the championship. 

The U.S. Senior Women’s Open is open to professional females, and amateur females with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 7.4, who have reached their 50th birthday as of the first day of the championship. The field will include 120 players who will earn entry into the championship through an exemption category or via sectional qualifying at sites nationwide this spring.

Founded in 1893 by Charles Blair Macdonald, who won the inaugural U.S. Amateur in 1895, Chicago Golf Club is the oldest golf club in the United States in continuous use at the same location and one of the five founding clubs of the USGA. This will be its 12th USGA championship and the first since the 2005 Walker Cup Match. Others USGA championships to be contested at the club include three U.S. Opens (1897, 1900 and 1911), four U.S. Amateurs (1897, 1905, 1909 and 1912), the 1903 U.S. Women’s Amateur, the 1979 U.S. Senior Amateur and the 1928 Walker Cup Match.
