Managing Director, Open Championships
Reg Jones serves as the USGA’s managing director of Open championships and was promoted to the position in September 2015. He is accountable for outside-the-ropes strategy and operations for all four USGA Opens – the U.S. Open, the U.S. Women’s Open, the U.S. Senior Open and the newly-created U.S. Senior Women’s Open.
Jones joined the USGA in 2006 as director of the 2007 U.S. Open. Following that championship, he was named senior director of the U.S. Open Championship and has managed all outside-the-ropes functions for the Open, including facility setup, security, transportation, volunteers, vendor operations, and host site relations. Prior to the USGA, Jones worked for Pinehurst Championship Management, for which he managed operations for the 1996 U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., as well as the 1994 U.S. Senior Open and 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club, in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C. In 2000, he was promoted to vice president and managing director, serving as championship director for the 2001 U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles, the 2002 U.S. Senior Open at Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore, Md., and the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst.
A Henderson, N.C., native, Jones has a bachelor’s degree in business from Wake Forest University and a master’s in sports administration from Ohio University. He resides in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C., with his wife Nicole and three daughters, Katie, Anna and Lydia.
