Thomas Pagel Senior Director, Rules of Golf & Amateur Status

Thomas Pagel joined the USGA in January 2011 and is responsible for the oversight of Rules-related functions for the organization. As part of this role, Thomas serves as the lead staff member on the Rules of Golf Committee and works closely with The R&A and the Joint Rules of Golf Committee to write and interpret a single set of Rules for use by golfers throughout the world. In addition to his involvement with the Rules of Golf Committee, Thomas coordinates the Rules operations for the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, and has served as a referee at the Masters Tournament, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship.  Prior to joining the USGA, he was the executive director of the Utah Golf Association from 2008-2009 and held several positions with the Colorado Golf Association from 2002-2007.  Thomas received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and an MBA from the University of Utah. He and his wife, Courtney, reside in Bernardsville, N.J., with their two children.
